Myomectomy is a surgical procedure that consists of removing the fibroids that is located in the uterus. The type of procedure depends on the dimensions, number, location of the fibroids and the patient’s symptoms. Surgery is indicated when the woman has severe abdominal pain and heavy menstruation that does not improve with the use of medication.

Fibroids are benign tumors that appear in the uterus in women of reproductive age, causing severe discomfort such as severe cramps and menstrual bleeding. Medications can control symptoms, but when they don’t, your gynecologist can suggest removal of the fibroid through surgery.

Usually, myomectomy can control pain discomfort and excessive bleeding. In selected cases of women who have infertility, there may also be an indication with improved prognosis in cases where the fibroid is the main factor.
